How Mango got its entire back office onto one system.

Mango was paying for two systems to do one job. Benefits lived in Employee Navigator; payroll, HR, and compliance lived in Gusto, and the two didn't talk to each other. Ignition consolidated everything into Gusto, set it up before open enrollment, and now runs the day-to-day benefits admin so Mango's team doesn't have to.

We were running benefits on one system and everything else on Gusto, constantly moving data between them. Ignition merged it all into one. I'm not re-entering payroll reports anymore.

Challenge

Mango builds precision instruments for microbial quality control: the kind of work where the systems behind the product are expected to be exact. Its back office didn't match that standard.

The company ran payroll, HR, and compliance through Gusto, but its benefits administration sat in a separate platform, Employee Navigator, set up by its previous broker. Two systems, no integration, and employees had no single place to manage their benefits.

The frustrating part: Gusto already includes benefits administration. Mango's former broker had mentioned moving to it but never did the work to set it up. The easier path was to leave the company on the system that was already there, even though it meant Mango ran two tools that didn't connect.

Solution

Ignition started by asking what was actually working and what wasn't, and the two-system setup was the first thing that surfaced. The fix was straightforward to recommend and tedious to execute, which is exactly why it hadn't been done: consolidate benefits administration into Gusto so the entire back office runs on one integrated platform.

Ignition did the build. The team moved Mango onto Gusto's benefits administration, configured it, and connected it to the payroll and HR the company already ran there, eliminating the report-shuffling between systems and giving employees one place to manage everything.

Just as important is what happened after setup. Ignition now handles Mango's eligibility requests and day-to-day benefits questions directly, operating as an extension of the company's HR function rather than a broker who shows up once a year. The unglamorous, ongoing work the previous broker skipped is the work Ignition took on.

Results

One integrated system instead of two

Mango's benefits administration now lives inside Gusto, alongside payroll, HR, and compliance. The manual export-and-re-enter step between platforms is gone, the data lives in one place, and employees have a single point of access. It’s a cleaner, less error-prone back office for a team that runs lean.

Set up and ready before open enrollment

Rather than scrambling at renewal, Mango heads into its next plan year with the infrastructure already built and tested. The administrative groundwork is done ahead of time, so open enrollment can run on one system from day one.

An extension of Mango's HR team, not just a broker

Ignition handles eligibility requests and benefits questions on Mango's behalf, day to day. Not a once-a-year renewal contact, but ongoing support that takes work off the team's plate. It also positions Mango to go into its renewal proactively, from a clean foundation and as a healthy group, instead of reacting to whatever number a carrier files.
